BEWARE of VACATIONOFFER AKA VO TRAVEL CLUB!
They cold called me and offered a free 4-day vacation to various locations if I would agree to attend a seminar about their vacation club. They told me that there was a $99 charge to guarantee that I would attend, and I agreed. As far as my understanding, that was the Agreement (also known as a “Contract”). Three weeks later I received a “Reservation and Tour Confirmation.” I read the large print at the top and the reservation information was correct, so I saved the document and planned my trip. However, in tiny print near the bottom it stated that there was a $150 fee for not canceling before a certain number of days, and a $300 fee for failing to attend the seminar! In effect, this is a unilateral attempt to change the original Agreement without my OK.
Because my dog Wally has cancer and needs special care such as being hand fed, even though he is not suffering, we decided to postpone the trip. Without knowing about the cancelation deadline, I called on Saturday to postpone the trip. That call was 8 days before our scheduled check in date. However, they were closed on weekends, so I called back Monday morning. I was told that rescheduling was NOT an option, and that because that Monday was ONE DAY beyond the cancelation period that there would be a $150 fee. I explained that I was a 78-year-old senior, but got nowhere with that agent. Since I was already apparently too late to cancel, I decided to wait until Thursday to see if there was any way we could make the trip. Because it was not in Wally’s best interest to either take him with us or to leave him with someone, I called the company two times on Thursday. The first agent was quite rude and hung up on me when I told her that I refused to pay the $150 fee because I was not made aware of it when I booked the trip. I called back and spoke with a more pleasant agent, but she told me that she could not charge the $150 cancelation fee unless I "authorized" them to do so. I told her that I did not authorize the fee and that I just wanted to cancel. She told me that she could not cancel unless I authorized the $150 fee, and that the fees were the “company policy!”!!! WHAT!?!?! I asked to speak with a supervisor, and was told that the supervisor was busy and that I would need to call back and hope that the supervisor was available at that time. I asked to leave a message for the supervisor and was told they don't do that and that the supervisor would NOT call me back.
Fast forward to the seminar date, which we obviously did not attend. The next day, they attempted to charge my credit card numerous times both the $150, the $300, and lesser amounts even though I had never agreed to those terms!! Fortunately, the credit card number they had would no longer work because I had needed to get a new card due to some previous fraudulent charges.
This is not the kind of company I would ever do business with again. What you do is up to you, but BEWARE! A WORD TO THE WISE!!!
