I first tried Pimsleur back in 2017 when I moved to Italy for a short stay and needed something quick to help me get comfortable speaking the language (not like Babbel). The lessons used to be an hour long, and it really worked well. A lot of the locals I met were surprised at how good my pronunciation was, even though I had only been learning for a few weeks. I mainly completed level 1 and practiced with my new friends, which was a big help. Jumping to 2024, I decided to give Pimsleur another shot after 6 years, this time to learn Portuguese, since I have some friends who speak it. I was happy to see that the lessons were now only 30 minutes, but the quality stayed strong. As expected, people were impressed by how well I spoke and pronounced words, especially considering how little time I had spent on it. My tip for anyone trying to pick up a language quickly is to combine Pimsleur with other free tools. Watch TV shows and movies in the language with subtitles, listen to podcasts, and find people to speak with. This really helps you progress fast!

Pimsleur is the main course, very important for years. It's respected a lot. But, Pimseurapproach is fake, stealing. One star reviews are mostly for fake. Remember, Dr. Pimsleur's original is oldest, good, and works well.

I testd the Romanian course to learn basics. Price is high. First 4 lessons were ok. But later convos too fast, some words not explained. It's rushed. Better if slowed down. I'll try cheaper option next.

The service is costly and very hard to stop

The service is costly and very hard to stop them from charging you. The subscription isn't visible in the app or in the Apple Store. To cancel it, you have to create a separate web account, which is a strange method that seems meant to prevent cancellations. On top of that, they not only auto-renew but also at a higher price and for a longer duration than the original subscription. Many other reviews mention the same charging issues. As a learning tool, it's decent, but the playback when on the go can be buggy. I've raised this issue, but like others, they just claim the problem is on your end - even though this is the only app I’ve had problems with. For this price, real lessons with an actual person are a much better deal. I've gone through all three Arabic units and don’t feel much progress.

Lessons good but cancelling subscripshun is nightmear. They charged me twise (2 mths) after cancel date. I went to bank to disput charges, hoping for refund. Sad cuz wanted to use lessons later.

Terrible customer support.

Terrible customer support. I signed up for the 7-day free trial but forgot to cancel because of a family matter (serious illness). After being charged, I tried to cancel, but I only got a generic email and then they ignored me—none of my follow-up emails got a reply. Pimsleur did not answer why I couldn't cancel or why there wasn't a 14-day cooling-off period (a legal right in the UK / EU). They completely ignored my reasonable questions. To me, it feels like a scam. I recommend you heed the warnings about the terrible or non-existent customer service. It's accurate. Also, the product isn't that great. There are better options for language learning available. Lastly, this company won't give you a refund if you forget to cancel before the trial ends, no matter the reason. Be careful and consider other choices.

Pimsleur's customer service is not good, they try to trick you into subscriptions by ending your subscription right away, and they add surprise charges to your card. I recommend finding a different service to avoid wasting time dealing with your credit card company and Pimsleur’s customer service.
